What follows is a series of overviews on a select group of Judith Robinson's research projects.
Outdoor Play Category Exploration and Creative Design
- Objectives: to explore parents' motivations for encouraging outdoor play with children 2 to 8 years of age and to elicit ideas for toys that address those motivations.
- This 2-phase project involved initial mini-groups using photography of the participants' backyards and laddering technique to uncover implicit goals in outdoor play.
- The second phase incorporated the uncovered goals as the basis for creativity sessions to design new approaches to outdoor toys.
- Outcome: specific suggestions for the modification of existing toys, ideas for new toy designs and direction for untapped play themes.
